Laura and Rie are pulling the blue masking tape from the rehearsal room floor. We tape the outline of the set on the floor, keeping the outline as close to scale as we can. One problem is this room is used by others, so we need to remove the tape after every rehearsal, then apply fresh tape before the next rehearsal. The actors benefit hugely from knowing where they move and how long it takes them to get there. We use up a lot of blue masking tape.
I like to give the actors ideas about their character, motivation, and relationships early in the process, so these ideas can “cook” for the next few weeks. Our brains work mysteriously to send us insights when we least expect them. It’s as though the ingredients added now will marinate and blend and late render up a delicious stew. I don’t understand how this works, I simply trust it. I love rehearsing.
